Director of Raw Materials Processing

The position is responsible for the leadership and development of the raw production teams at multiple locations. The unit operations at these sites utilize both batch and continuous processes.  These operations include grinding, pelletization, dehydration, press extraction, solvent extraction, distillation, filtration, saponification, and hops chemistry consisting of pH-based separations, hydrogenation, oxidations, and thermal rearrangements. 

This team is responsible for implementing programs or projects designed to optimize profitability of plants and facilities both domestically and internationally.  This team is also responsible for the generation, development, implementation, and translation of new manufacturing technologies while optimizing existing processes within Company holdings.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leadership – Utilize a collaborative management style to form and lead site wide cross functional teams to address problems or exploit new opportunities.  Develop and set metrics that align with the overall business strategies and goals.  Communicate and drive the meeting of those targets and objectives.  Identify, quantify, and develop opportunities within the business for improvements, communicate a clear business case, and execute the action plan to achieve success.  Drive business results with new project implementation, process improvements, safety/environmental upgrades, and improving plant operating efficiency.
  • Production Targets – Make/process raw materials forecasted and needed by the business annually to meet customer needs, while minimizing under-absorbed overhead. 
  • Capital Management – Prioritize, focus, and align capital spending with resources. Generate cost estimates, justifications, and clear business cases for capital expenditures. Follow and upgrade corporate capital approval process.
  • Budget – Develop, maintain, and oversee the raw material production annual budgets for two sites. Explain budget variances. Manage site process improvement budget. Prioritize and monitor annual capital spending goals.
  • Maintenance – Work with maintenance to help improve manufacturing reliability and mechanical integrity.
  • Process Development – Support the process development group in trials and scaleup of new equipment, processes, and technologies. Lead or assist in the development and implementation of new technologies and processes.
  • Safety – Participate in/lead efforts in Process Safety Management (PSM). Ensure all safety standards and policies are followed by the production teams. Participate in SQF/HAACP teams.
  • New Technology – Support technical efforts to implement cost saving technology into Company, including automation, continuous processing from batch processing, solvent recovery systems, emission reduction, and bio-processing initiatives.
  • Communication – Communicate constantly, spoken and written, with the production teams. Meet with teams consistently to discuss progress and problems. Report out on group progress toward production goals. Provide update status on on-going projects. Represent and communicate the production viewpoint on cross functional teams.
  • Development – Develop a high functioning technical team. Suggest development opportunities to direct reports. Utilize Business, Project, and Personal Development Goals to drive professional growth. Mentor young managers and supervisors. Share personal and professional experiences to develop a pipeline with high potential, upwardly mobile, professionals, strengthening the future of Company.



  • BS in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Management/Operations or related field with more than 10 years demonstrated leadership experience
  • Strong team leadership, development and communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and present data to a diverse audience.
  • Experience with process implementation, scale-up, optimization, problem solving, cost reduction, in a manufacturing setting


  • Expertise in developing continuous processes from batch processes.
  • Master’s Degree or other advanced relevant degree
  • Solids handling and hydrogenations a plus
  • Six Sigma, Lean Experience/Blackbelt or related experience (statistics, design of experiments, variance, process mapping)
  • Project management experience (cost, schedule, delivery)
  • Unit Operations Experience (distillation, extraction, separations)


  • May be required to travel to potential or existing vendors
  • May be required to travel to home offices and/or other plant sites around the globe.
  • May be required to travel to meetings, conferences and/or training
